Yi-Hsuan Huang
Teaching
I teach democratic theory, feminist theory, modern political war and ethics of war. I have received the Pouliot Teaching Award of the Department of Political Science, UNC Chapel Hill.

My Teaching Philosophy
My pedagogical goal is to turn political theory into an accessible tool that allows students to assess pressing political issues, respond to real-world challenges, and engage in meaningful conversations with many others beyond the classroom.
To achieve this, my class actively incorporates real-world examples, makes learning interactive, supports autonomous learning avenues, and promotes a sense of equity and mutual respect.

Student Comments
Yi-Hsuan made something that should be very intimidating––political theory––very approachable and accessible.
(Major Issues in Political Theory)
I was thoroughly challenged on my beliefs through this class and it opened my eyes to major flaws within democratic systems that I otherwise overlooked.
(Major Issues in Political Theory)
Yi-Hsuan gave me some of the best feedback and advice I've gotten on a paper in a really long time. It was honest and poignant and will really help me evolve my writing to a higher degree.
(Modern Political Thought)
Yi-Hsuan is the best TA I have ever had, she works through the material clearly and thoroughly and never failed to teach me more than I knew going into recitation.
(Modern Political Thought)
The discussion really helped push me to engage in public speaking as well as let me
understand other people's viewpoints on a subject.
(Major Issues in Political Theory)
I thought our instructor was a very good moderator of the class discussions and always asked questions that prompted us to think critically about the readings that we did in class. She gave very thorough and helpful feedback on the assignments that we turned in, which was very helpful in terms of moving forward with our actual papers.
(Feminism Political Theory)
My professor was always extremely prepared and never came to class without a plan and guiding questions for that day. Her due dates and grading were always within a timely manner and she had an aura about her that was very inclusive and I always felt like I could go up and talk to her. She made every classmate feel comfortable even if they answered a question 'wrong."
(Major Issues in Political Theory)
Ms. Huang did a great job of thoroughly covering material from the lecture thoroughly in recitation, and encouraging deep, thoughtful discussion on the
given topic.
(Ethics of Peace, War, and Defense)
The discussion-based nature of this course was extremely impactful in my learning process throughout this semester. To not only hear from the instructor themself but to also hear the point of view of other students made understanding the course concepts much easier.
